Taipei, Aug. 19 (CNA) Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) conferred the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon on outgoing Palau Ambassador to Taiwan Dilmei Louisa Olkeriil on Friday, in recognition of her contribution to the promotion of ties between the two countries over the past eight years.

Olkeriil, who has served in her post since 2014, has actively promoted exchanges and cooperation on various issues such as agriculture, education, culture, healthcare and tourism between Taiwan and Palau, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said in a statement.

She has also facilitated the exchange of high-level political dignitaries from Taiwan and Palau, making an outstanding contribution to the deepening of friendship between the two countries, MOFA added.

“We truly treasure her exemplary service & deep friendship & wish her a bright & prosperous future,” MOFA said in a tweet with photos of the medal ceremony.

Expressing her gratitude for the friendship she has received, Olkeriil said Palau shares the values of democracy, freedom and human rights with Taiwan and is honored to be Taiwan’s ally, according to MOFA.

Olkeriil also thanked Taiwan for its assistance in promoting the development of people’s livelihood, epidemic prevention and tourism, in Palau, MOFA said.

One of Taiwan’s 14 allies, Palau established official diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1999, according to MOFA.
