The Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassy in an official ceremony handed over a newly completed solar energy system to the state-own Civic Center run by Eigigu Holdings Corporations (EHC) in an effort to increase Nauru’s renewable energy on December 19, 2022.

Taiwan Ambassador Dean Hai-Long Wang invited Honorable Minister for EHC Martin Hunt M.P to officially inaugurate the system by unveiling the solar energy project plaque. The ceremony was held outside the Eigigu Supermarket and witnessed by EHC executive members and Taiwan Embassy staff.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wang mentioned that the completion of Civic Center solar energy project is the second achievement of bilateral development cooperation between Taiwan and Nauru directly followed after the inauguration of Menen Hotel solar project in early September this year. It is also one of many solar projects funded by Taiwan since 2010. He thanked Speed Tech Corporation from Taiwan, Nauru Utilities and Central Meridian for their concerted effort and hard work to make this happen.

Minister Hunt in his turn gratefully thanked the Government of Taiwan for its ongoing support in the development of renewable energy for Nauru. He said the solar project system will reduce the use of fossil fuel and cut costs to electricity for EHC.

After official speeches, Ambassador Wang and Minister Hunt were escorted by Speed Tech engineer to tour the control room for a briefing on how the solar energy system works.
